Nokia Lumia 710/800; Finally Nokia Launches The First (Real/Windows) Smartphone!

Just like the mythical iPhone5, I have waited for a Nokia Windows Phone anxiously.

The Nokia Lumia 800(left) and 710 that were launched by Nokia today

There is a friend of mine who has a Win 7 Mango phone, the user interface is certainly very different from the iOS/Android experience. While the iOS/Android devices are app-centric, meaning everything from calling to keyboards is an app(module), the Windows 7 phone integrates its interfaces (tile-centered UI) and takes a while to get used to. However, you can still do a number of cool things with it, and I’m sure Microsoft developers will now work on (quality) apps that will make users happy.

I can’t wait for these phones to hit the Kenyan market so I can test them (someone, anyone?) and compare with Android devices.

The Nokia Lumia 800 is touted to be the best Windows Phone yet. The Galaxy S II is the best Android phone. I wanna compare these two fairly, though I think the S II is already superior in terms of physical specifications.

Just to clarify a few points. WP7 is every intuitive to use as the UI is designed to get you in and out of your phone quickly. All you main features of the phone are integrated. E.G. Link all youe email accounts in one place. Read all your various notifications (FB, LinkedIn, Twitter) in one place.

Regarding your comment on “quality” apps. WP7 marketplace now has over 36,000 apps including many of the heavy hitters. You can check the online marketplace at the following link http://bit.ly/sLoK3q

You are right about the UI design. I have seen it integrate all notifications, emails etc which is awesome. Samsung have tried it, but so far it’s not working.

As for apps here is what I meant: try Skype, Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp… there is just nothing that can match the quality of the same apps in the Android/iOS platform. Maybe it’s because of the UI integration, but I think they are fixing the bugs on the popular apps.

      Followed you already.

  3. While Lumia 800 is nokia’s first Wp7 smart phone , you aren’t real allowed to say it’s their best, lest it turns out to be another E7. But never the less, if its anything that resembles Windows 8, then going by what I’ve experienced, this could be the ultimate smartphone OS and combined that with Nokia’s hardware craftsmanship…. Then its worth all much awaited hype.

The Nokia Lumia 800 is not the best WP7 phone. I just got a htc Titan and it has blown my mind. The windows gaming apps are also above par wwith integration with xbox live something only the iphone has come close to. Android gaming is very poor especially on popular motion based gaming from the likes of EA

Well, it may not be the best, but it has been the most awaited. Windows phones just haven’t been very popular of late and maybe Nokia can reverse that.

True, Windows games are the best. And yes, some Android games may not be the best but those that I have perform well on the S II.
